Renton post office renamed to honor Jimi Hendrix

The United States Senate recently unanimously passed a measure to rename the post office in Renton the “James Marshall ‘Jimi’ Hendrix Post Office Building”.

United Sates Representative Adam Smith sponsored the measure and introduced it into the House over the summer.

Seattle is where Hendrix was born in 1942 and then grew up in the Central District. His mainstream career as an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter was short-lived but he is considered to be one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music. When he passed away in September 1970, he was returned to Washington state and buried in the Greenwood Memorial Park cemetery, which is only a few blocks from the post office for which he is being named.

Representative Smith said that he is glad that the Renton Highlands Post Office will be renamed the James Marshall ‘Jimi’ Hendrix Post Office Building to pay tribute to Jimi Hendrix, a Seattle native and one of the icons of rock and roll. This renaming will celebrate his connection to the area of Puget Sound and help ensure that the community remember his creative legacy and inspire future generations.

Banner printing companies can be hired to create displays around the community so that people learn more about such memorials and how they honor well-known people in the local community.
