Several fundraising events are taking place in Renton for the holidays.
Residents and those in surrounding communities can be made aware of such activities with the use of poster printing.
The city will have a Giving Tree to help those families in need in the city during the season. Residents can take a “Gift of Play” tag from the tree so they can donate to the Renton Recreation Scholarship Program of the Gift of Play. Recreational activities are made available for older adults, young people from low-income families, and adaptive recreation participants through this program. A tag that has the word “Gift” on it can be used to purchase the gift mentioned on the tag. These gifts will go to senior adults and children who would not otherwise receive a gift.
Giving Trees can be found at the Renton Community Center, Renton City Hall, and the Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center and need to be dropped off at the front counter of each by Wednesday, December 14.
The Battle of the Badges, Holiday Lights, and Winter Coat Drive will be held by the Renton Police Department at the Renton Community Center. This is a drive-through event in which public safety organizations decorate their vehicles to compete for the best in show. This will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 9, during which new winter coats will also be collected for local youth in need.
