Renton installs decals on city doors

One of the buildings near the Skate Park in Liberty Park in Renton has new and colorful artwork on several of its doors.

Crews from the city have applied unique vinyl anti-graffiti artwork made from a 3M product o 14 doors. The result is that not only is graffiti deterred from being painted on the doors, but a more attractive and welcoming environment has been created for visitors and residents. The artwork features wildlife from the Pacific Northwest and focuses on the octopi found at Puget Sound on its deep-sea floors to the salmon that flow through the Cedar River.

Staff from the Public Works Maintenance Services Division and the Community and Economic Development Department (CED) collaborated on the project and paid for the installation. Implementation and facilitation support was provided by the Renton Arts Commission. The artwork is a great example of graphic design.

Economic Development Manager at CED and the liaison to the natural heritage of the city, Jessie Kotarski, said that these representatives of local wildlife and sea life are a tribute to the natural heritage of the city.

This artwork on the 14 doors is a pilot project. If they are found to be effective, the city will look to implement installations like this to foster pride in the community and enhance the urban environment.
