King County has purchased the Extended Stay America hotel in Renton to address the issue of homelessness in the city.
Dow Constantine, Executive of King County, said that as homelessness is a major issue facing the region, the county is working with the city of Renton to create a solution for the region with Health Through Housing. He expressed his happiness in being able to collaborate with the mayor of Renton and the city to create safer and more secure housing in the southern part of the county for over 100 people.
This purchase of $28.6m for the hotel is the second such acquisition in the Health through Housing Initiative of the county. The hotel has 110 units on a parcel spanning 3.88 acres. There is one building three stories high, and another for storage with areas for parking. There is a full bathroom, kitchenette, a small seating area, and a bed in each room. More information for residents about other services that may be available with such units is often provided with flyer printing.
Mayor Armondo Pavone said that the city will work with local governments, service providers, and the community to ensure a solution to the problem at hand. We expressed his confidence that the partnerships with Executive Constantine and the county will enable the city to address the needs of some of these most vulnerable people.
