Renton councilman to chair important regional committee

The Sound Cities Association Board (SCA) recently unanimously re-elected Renton City Councilmember Ed Prince to be the chairperson if its Public Issues Committee (PIC). The SCA represents 38 cities in King County and provides a voice for the one million people in the region.

Executive Director of the SCA, Deanna Dawson, said the PIC makes recommendations on committee appointments and policies and so is a very important committee. The dedication, consensus building skills, and leadership of Councilmember Prince will be important to addressing the many needs and challenges of all communities in King County.

The mission of the PIC is to build consensus on policies affecting the region and includes such areas as public safety, education, health, and economic and community development, among others. Proposed policies are brought to the 38-member cities and these cities in turn bring policy proposals to the SCA. Various printing services can be used to create mailers and other materials so that residents are aware of such activities.

Prince worked for the Washington State House of Representatives before he was elected to the City Council in 2011 and has served on many of its committees and regional boards. Among his other responsibilities are serving as a member of the Renton Public Safety Committee, a vice chair of the Renton Finance Committee, and chair of Renton City Council Planning and Development Committee.
