The City Council of Renton has elected Ed Prince, member of the Council, to serve as its president for this year.
In this position, Prince will run the meetings of Committee of the Whole that take place before the full city council meeting, and will also set the agenda. News of such appointments is often spread throughout a community with flyer printing.
This is Prince’s fourth term as a member of the Council, each of which lasts four years, and he is chair of the Planning and Development Committee. As well as being president of the Council twice, he has earned the Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership after completing over 60 hours of training and service to the local community.
Other roles in which Prince is involved include being a member of the Sound Transit Board of Directors and Sound Cities Association, and serving on the Association of Washington Cities Board of Directors. He is co-chair of the King County Regional Homeless Authority, chair of the Puget Sound Regional Council Growth Management Policy Board, and Executive Director of the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs.
Valerie O’Halloran was the president of the City Council last year, and Prince will be taking over the role from her. He will start his term this month and is the first African American to serve in this role.
