Repair work has begun on the Cedar River Trail Trestle in Renton east of Cedar River Park.
Closed for the duration of the project will be a segment of the Cedar River Trail across the bridge, access to the river below the bridge, and the Maplewood Roadside parking lot. There will also be trail revisions between the Cedar River and Riverview Parks due to erosion of the riverbank after the flooding that took place along the river in February. There will be a detour along the Maple Valley Highway sidewalk. Signs can be created by local Print shops to direct those along such trails as to the revised paths.
The work to be done on the bridge will include replacing timber facings, repairing timber piles, and removing debris from the trestle structure. Such work will ensure the structural integrity of the bridge and enable the trail to be safely used in the future.
The Cedar River Trail is 17.3 miles long, of which the first 12.3 miles are paved, and the remaining five miles feature a soft surface pathway. The trail follows an historic railroad route along State Route 169 and offers access and views to Lake Washington, Maple Valley, downtown Renton, and Cedar River Park, among several other destinations in the area.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of August.
