Bezos Academy has signed a lease for 15 years with the city of Renton to open a Montessori-inspired preschool with no tuition fee at the North Highlands Neighborhood Center.
The academy is the result of consultation with multiple community organizations and civic agencies, including the Renton School District.
Armondo Pavone, mayor of Renton, said that it has been difficult for many families to find affordable and high-quality preschool programming. He added that having the Bezos Academy will be an investment in the city’s children, and will provide excellent programs for them during years that are critical to their development.
The North Highlands Neighborhood Center will be renovated by the Bezos Academy for the preschool with multiple classrooms. It will be opened year-round, five days a week, and will offer a full day of programs for children who are three and four years old. It will also supply children with educational supplies such as arts and crafts, Books, and other materials, as well as meals and field trips. Local Print shops can be hired to create Brochures with more information about such preschools and their services.
Those eligible for the Academy will be families who earn up to 400% of the federal poverty level. Selection of those attending the Academy will be based on a lottery.
The Academy is expected to open this year.
