Farmers market opens in Renton for the summer season

The Renton Farmers’ Market recently opened for the season in the downtown area at the Piazza Park.

A grand opening ceremony was held in which Dennis Law, Mayor of Renton, and the Hazen High School Jazz Band participated, with crafts, food, and even wine and beer available.

The market will be held weekly on Tuesdays and feature weekly events such as cooking demonstrations, food trucks, and a presentation by Ciscoe Morris, who is a gardening expert from the area. Childcare services will be provided so that parents can shop by themselves. The market will also feature fresh produce, cheese, and other locally sourced goods from vendors in Washington state.

Among the sponsors of the market are Piazza Renton, the city of Renton, King Conservation District, and Kaiser Permanente.

A Buy One, Donate One program is starting this year. Typically, donations for the Renton Food Bank have come from the participants in the market, but this year shoppers are being asked to purchase two items – one for themselves and one to be donated to the food bank. Poster printing can be used at such events to promote such charitable requests.

The Renton Farmers' Market was started in 2002 and is run by the group Piazza Renton and the city. The market is each Tuesday from now through September from 3:00 to 7:00 pm.
