The Issaquah Press’ annual fundraiser in support of the Merry Christmas Issaquah fund has begun for the season, with volunteers setting the goal at $100,000.
The fund supports the Issaquah Community Services (ICS) group, which works directly with community members to offer emergency aid when needed. The group is completely funded by donations, and is staffed by volunteers. ICS receives approximately 500 requests for assistance each year.
According to Elaine Davis, ICS board member, the community service organization exists through The Issaquah Press readership’s support. Without that, she says, the work it carries out would be simply impossible.
To support the fundraising mission, the Issaquah Press will spend the month of December highlighting the stories of those who have benefited from funds and support through the ICS. Typically, the names of beneficiaries are kept strictly confidential, but these clients have chosen to be interviewed to help show how the organization helps to support the community.
As ICS specializes in emergency aid, it also maintains a substantial amount of information on other services available in the state, and through the federal government. Brochure printing, Flyers, and other printing materials are often used help share information between agencies, and help potential clients determine whether or not they will be able to benefit from services.
