Issaquah creates map of trails

Issaquah, Washington lies in a natural area of great beauty, and is a jumping-off point for people who want to get outside and explore the region in and around “Trailhead City". Issaquah won the nickname since there are more than a dozen trailheads here, along with some 200 miles of trails, and approximately 1,300 open acres nearby.

With all the space to explore, officials have created the Issaquah Trails Map, a guide to the trails that run through the city's public spaces, neighborhoods, and parks. The map is available online at the city's website; it's also available as a hard copy that people can find at Salmon Days, and National Night Out, both community celebrations. The map was created by the King County GIS (Geographic Information System) Center, the City of Issaquah GIS, and the city's Parks & Recreation Department.

The city is surrounded by Cougar, Tiger, and Squak mountains, referred to as the Issaquah Alps. It's also near Lake Sammamish, so people exploring the area have a choice of family-centered activities, or more strenuous hikes. The map will help visitors and residents alike find new places to explore.

The city's efforts to bring people to the outdoors using either an electronic or paper map should enable visitors to find their way around more easily. However, officials could also help by working with a poster printing company, which can create Signs that label each of the trails.
