Issaquah City Council approves funding for human services

At a recent meeting, the Issaquah City Council discussed a number of issues, including funding for the Human Services Commission, and the Olde Town Sub Area Plan. They gave funding to the commission and approved the plan.

The Human Services Commission gave a presentation on how it recommends funding for human services be distributed for the years 2019-2020. Ninety-one applications were made to the city for funds for these programs, for a total of $1.1 million. The requests exceeded the funds available. However, 65 of the programs that applied received $495,000 in funding in total.

The commission split the funds among programs in five categories that had previously been identified in an assessment of the community's needs. The five are job skills and education; physical and behavioral health; safety from abuse and violence; supportive relationships in communities and neighborhoods; and economic stability and employment.

The council approved the recommendations for funding unanimously. Recipients of funding for programs like this might consider using graphic design to illustrate materials about their projects.

In addition, the Olde town Sub Area plan was unanimously approved by the council. The plan is a measure to preserve the vitality and character of Olde Town. First adopted in 1999, a full update of the plan was begun by the city in 2016. Among the suggested changes are measures to amend the requirements for parking and adopt architectural standards for residences.
