While many might think of outdoor swimming as a warm weather activity, an Issaquah event is about to turn that idea on its head.
A group of bathers will be braving the cold to take part in the Polar Plunge, and to help make it accessible to as many people as possible, the organizers have decided to add something new for this year. Participants can take part from wherever they might happen to be, whether it is in their pool, hot tub, bathtub, or simply the spray of their own lawn sprinkler.
Those who register for the in-person activity will be hitting the water in Lake Sammamish State Park to kick off another year. In adherence to the state's COVID-19 prevention measures, the bathers will be asked to take part in groups of no more than five. Masks are mandatory, and the organizers pointed out that, should local health officials deem it necessary, the event may need to be cancelled.
To thank everyone for their support of this icy celebration, the first 200 to sign up will receive an assortment of Promotional Products, including a Polar Plunge neck gaiter as well as a coupon they can redeem for a steaming bowl of clam chowder, courtesy of Ivar’s. These will be handed out on site or mailed out to anyone who participates at home.
This frozen salute to the arrival of 2021 will take place at 1:30 pm on January 1. The fee to sign up is $10.
