A different holiday celebration has been planned for Issaquah this year.
The Yule Celebration 2024 will be held at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah, and this year, the popular event is being spread over two days.
Although often associated with Christmas, Yule is not the same but is a neopagan tradition that celebrates the Winter Solstice. According to legend, Yule, who is also known as Jól, sacrifices himself at the festival of Samhain, then journeys through the underworld to become the child of light.
The Issaquah event is indeed being held in anticipation of the Winter Solstice and is primarily an indoor market, but savory goodies will be available from food trucks outside the barn. Among the unusual items that will be for sale, shoppers will find besoms, DIY magic crafts, spell jars, crystals, and much more.
Psychic consultations, healing guides, and workshops will be held all day, while Strange and the Familiars will provide live music.
The band, which is based in Portland, Oregon, is influenced by comic book artists and literary authors, and their performances walk the line between musical theater and rock opera, but with a dark twist.
The Yule Celebration is scheduled for December 2 and 3, from 11.00 am until 5.00 pm. Admission is free, and organizers advise that visitors consider using public transit or carpooling, since parking is limited.
