Traditional celebration planned in Aberdeen

One of the most popular festivals in the world is coming to Aberdeen.

The St. Mary School in Aberdeen has hosted the city’s Oktoberfest for 40 years and will be doing so again this year. Although details are still being finalized, planners say there will be some returning favorites. These include a traditional bake sale, the popular Kids Karnival, raffles with outstanding prizes, and delicious food typical of that found in Bavaria.

A look back at an earlier Oktoberfest gives potential attendees a hint as to what this year will bring. Food in past years has included pretzels, bratwurst, and lots of sauerkraut, thanks to the Outdoor Bites Café. The Kids Karnival featured cotton candy, activities aimed at youngsters, face painting, and carnival games.

Past raffles have given participants some amazing prizes. Winners have received a two-night stay for two at Lake Quinault Lodge, a $500 gift certificate for a furniture store, a single-night stay for two at the Crescent Lake Lodge, a single-night stay for two at Sol Duc Hot Springs, a $100 gift card for gasoline, an Amazon stick, and a $50 Visa Gift Card. The raffles are worth entering, especially as the money raised goes to support the school.

Oktoberfest this year is October 5. St. Mary’s School is at 518 North H Street. When special events like this are planned, organizers may choose to work with a Print shop, asking it to use banner printing to create decorations suitable for outdoor use.
