Plenty of monkeying around in Aberdeen

People who love comedy should plan on attending an upcoming show in Aberdeen.

The Driftwood Players are presenting “Kong’s Night Out,” a farce written by Jack Neary and directed by Alex Eddy. The play asks an interesting question—what are the other characters doing while the main action is going on? In this case, the action is King Kong dragging Ann Darrow out of her hotel room and up to the top of the Empire State Building. The play mirrors the classic 1933 film “King Kong,” starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, and Bruce Cabot.

The man in the adjoining room is Myron Siegel, a struggling Broadway producer whose work is constantly sabotaged by his rival, a moviemaker famous for his wildlife films. As the show begins, Myron is introducing a new star, Foxy Felicia, while his rival’s new production features a large monkey. Things go from there with pies in the face, mistaken identities, and underhanded doings. Each moment is coordinated exactly with those in the film.

The Driftwood Theatre formed in 1959, performing summer theater throughout the area. In 1960, the theater moved to a playhouse in Cosmopolis, and then to its current home. In 67 years, the troupe has put on 311 plays.

The show opens February 13 and runs through March 1. Colorful Posters, which event organizers can find at Print shops, are often used to advertise events like this.
