Aberdeen is welcoming winter with a traditional festival the city has been celebrating since 1978.
The weekend before Thanksgiving has been the time slot reserved for Winterfest since 1978. The Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department co-sponsors the event with the Aberdeen Area Arts Council. The event is organized by the Winterfest Committee, which is committed to creating an exceptional show.
The show is juried, meaning that art experts, such as other artists, gallery owners, or museum curators, will examine the artworks that are submitted for the event. They will then decide which ones to place in the show, meaning only the best work is displayed. At Winterfest, the jurors hope to create a high-quality show by creating a balance among various Forms of art, as well as between folk art and fine art.
Since this year’s event is still being finalized, a quick look back will tell attendees what to expect. In the past, Winterfest has included a Gingerbread Contest and Show, the Holiday Market, and Breakfast with Santa, and these or similar activities are planned for this year.
Winterfest 2023 is scheduled for November 18 and 19, from 10.00am until 5.00pm on Saturday, and from 10.00am until 4.00pm on Sunday. The venue is the Civic Arena, located in Historic Downtown Aberdeen.
