Aberdeen welcomes holidays

Aberdeen is getting ready to see in the season with a traditional event aimed at invoking the magic of the holidays.

The Downtown Aberdeen Association is teaming up with Winterfest to create an experience that will appeal to everyone, especially children. Winterfest is now in its sixth year and offers a wide range of activities for every member of the family.

Winterfest is set for a Saturday, but the fun starts the previous day, when shops will remain open late Friday night. The next day, the local restaurants and stores will be open for the entire day, as will the Holiday Market, which is located downtown. Upstairs from the Holiday Market will be a space where children can make Christmas gifts for themselves and their families.

To start off the day on the Saturday, families and children are invited to attend a breakfast with Santa, and have photos taken with the big man himself.

Also scheduled is a Gingerbread House Contest, which offers people a chance to enjoy the structures as well as casting a vote for the one they like best. There will be live music in the Gingerbread room, courtesy of Tyler Marchese and Amanda Ransom, local musicians.

Winterfest is scheduled for December 4, and organizers are hoping there might be a dusting of snow to enhance the occasion. Another way to enhance such an event is to display a series of identical holiday Banners on the lampposts, which can be created by using banner printing.
