Aberdeen may get new store

A popular chain store could be planning to open a location in Aberdeen.

Construction documents obtained by local radio station KRXO.com reveal it is likely that plans are in motion to add a Dollar General store to Aberdeen, on Highway 12 near a 7-11 gas station. According to the information, bidding began recently for work on the facility, which will cover more than 10,000 square feet. Planning for the store has apparently been ongoing since 2020.

The documents also revealed that a general permit for construction stormwater was filed, indicating that it is possible the site contains contaminated soil, which would have to be mitigated.

Despite this information, Dollar General Corporation Public Relations said the company has no plans to expand into Grays Harbor County or in Aberdeen, though it did say the company is constantly evaluating opportunities to add stores in new locations.

Dollar General announced that it was expanding into Washington State when it opened a store in Cathlamet in 2020. Since then, Dollar General has added approximately 30 stores to its chain, including locations in the Washington cities of South Bend, Pe Ell, Ocean Park, Westport, Ocean Shores, Oakville, and McCleary.

Last year, Dollar General announced it plans to add 1,110 new stores by the end of 2022. It reports currently operating more than 18,000 locations in 47 states. When new stores open, managers can use flyer printing to create handouts advertising the opening.
