A band based in Vermont will bring its unique take on the world to Colchester.
Milton Busker & The Grim Work first got together in 2014, when Milton Busker, a singer/songwriter, met his long-time friend and guitarist David Ball by accident at a farmer’s market. The group suggests this may very well be the most ‘Vermont’ way possible to start a band.
Jom Hammack, a mandolin player, came aboard and the new outfit performed as a trio until John Treybal, their bassist, joined up in 2016. Shortly after that, drummer Dave Simpson got on the train as well. Now a full five-piece outfit, they began playing shows in and around Burlington to develop their repertoire, hone their craft, and build a following.
The band calls its music “suit-folk,” a sort of alt-country/Americana hybrid they describe as people’s music dressed up for a date night, or a Cole Porter take on the songs of Appalachia. Describing their music, the band says:
“It’s a gospel song for heretics. It’s hippie music for people that can’t afford to drop out. It’s a love song for the kid who couldn’t get a date but still dresses up for the dance.”
Milton Busker & The Grim Work will be at Foam Brewers on Friday, October 6. The event is free and starts at 8.00pm. When events like this are scheduled, organizers can use flyer printing to create handouts that are distributed as advertisements.
