Steampunk fun at convention near Colchester

An upcoming convention near Colchester will bring together fans of a specific niche of fantasy and science fiction—steampunk.

The 2nd Annual Vermont Steampunk Expo will be held at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction, a short distance from Colchester. Attendees at the expo will enjoy panelists and special guests, crafters, performers, and artisans from throughout New England and Vermont, who will get together to enjoy a celebration of Victorian fantasy.

Steampunk is a branch of science fiction that takes place in the Victorian era. It takes its inspiration from steam-powered devices, everything from locomotives to cars, clocks, and watches. Aficionados of this genre also construct costumes inspired by clothing of the Victorian age, and frequently include accessories like leather masks, goggles, gauntlets, and top hats. The influence of steampunk can be found in films as well, with movies like “Hugo” (2007), and 1958’s “The Fabulous World of Jules Verne” displaying typical aesthetics, including gears, clocks, and machinery.

The Steampunk Expo is November 11 and 12, and is a family-friendly convention, suitable for attendees of all ages. Adult admission is $20 for one day, or both days can be attended for $30. Children under six will be admitted free. The hours on both days are from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Organizers of events like this can use poster printing to create outstanding advertising to promote them.
