No borders for blues in Colchester

Blues and brews will be together again in Colchester.

A band called Blues without Borders (BWOB) will appear at the Spanked Puppy soon. Despite its name, the band is not a classic blues outfit. They have some older artists like KoKo Taylor and Jimmy Reed on their setlist and may include a hit by Etta James on occasion.

However, the group concentrates on newer artists like Susan Tedeschi, Samantha Fish, Joanne Shaw Taylor, and Joe Bonamassa—and good look to any guitarist covering this megastar.

The band doesn’t confine itself to this genre, either. They dabble in classic rock from Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Rolling Stones, and others. They even go down the soul and funk path with Bill Withers and Billy Preston.

Currently, the band comprises the powerful vocals of Deb Tier and the fiery guitar work of ScottyMac. The two are supported by bassist Mike Burbank, drummer Dan “Freight Train of Rhythm” Whittemore, and new addition Tony Bartold on keyboards. The group formed in 2019 when Dan and Scott regularly played blues jams together. Both musicians knew Deb, and all three wanted to work together. Mike had played with Dan and was added to the group.

BWOB will be in Colchester on May 16, and the Spanked Puppy is at 116 Main Street. When the book artists for events like this, organizers will often use poster printing to create advertising for them.
