Joe Bonamassa was only 12 years of age when he began his career by opening for B.B. King. He had begun playing the guitar when he was four, with encouragement from his father who loved music and introduced him to the work of Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and other British bluesmen.
Danny Gatton, an American guitarist, mentored Bonamassa, and by the time he was 12, he had formed Smokin’ Joe Bonamassa, his own band. The group played gigs in Pennsylvania and western New York State but were only able to play on weekends since they had to go to school during the week.
Bonamassa released his inaugural studio album, “A New Day Yesterday,” in 2000, when he was 23. He has dropped 15 albums to date, with the latest, “Time Clocks,” appearing in 2021.
Bonamassa has been nominated for three Grammys, has played with many rock and blues artists, and frequently collaborates with Beth Hart.
