Masquerade celebrates milestone year next month

The Magic Hat Mardi Gras Weekend is taking place at the end of February in Burlington. Proceeds from the event go to support the Vermont Foodbank.

This is the 20th anniversary for the event, which features a parade, musical performances, circus acts, and a free photo booth. The kickoff party is taking place on February 17 at Higher Ground from 8:00 pm to midnight, and will feature a performance by Gogol Bordello. Tickets are $30 in advance or $32 at the door.

The grand parade will travel down Main Street on February 28. It features costumed walkers and floats from local businesses and community organizations. Later that day, there will be performances from bands like the Grippo Funk Band and Sambutacada. Visitors can also take in the Magic Hat Brewery and enjoy free samples of beer and guided tours.

Those coming from out of town, possibly from nearby communities such as Hinesburg, can get a special deal on hotel rooms at the Hotel Burlington. Local flyer printing companies may have been asked to provide products to advertise this weekend event and encourage stopovers.

The Mardi Gras Weekend is taking place in and around the Church Street Marketplace from February 27 to March 1. To find out more and to learn about other events taking place during the festival, call 802-658-2739.
