Icy fun in Colchester

An annual event in Colchester this month brought hockey fans from near and far to enjoy an icy contest.

The Pond Hockey Classic is held every year on Lake Champlain, and 2022 was the tenth year for the event. Although the weather was mild leading up to the contest, the ice on Malletts Bay, an enclosed bay that is a part of Lake Champlain, remained solid.

Taking place from February 11 to 13, the tournament drew over 100 teams from throughout the country who were happy to be playing again in person, after the virus forced the cancellation of the tournament in 2021.

One participant, Tyler Keefe who came from nearby Waterbury, Vermont to join in the fun, said:

“(I love the tournament for) the excitement, the adrenaline and the camaraderie. We've made friends with teams from all over the country, not just . . . Vermont . . . It's great seeing the same teams year after year . . .”

The return of the tournament is also good for local businesses, who are happy to have the contest return to Colchester. Among them was the Kountry Kart Deli of Burlington, who erected their tent on the ice where they could sell sandwiches to fans and players throughout the day. Events like this, which bring together people with similar interests, are a good place to exchange Business Cards.

The tournament, which was open to the public, was an event everyone could enjoy free of charge.
