Bobby Therrin of Hinesburg took the checkered flag at the Memorial Day Classic race at Thunder Road.
This is Therrin’s first win at the race. He originally started 10th out of 29 cars, and had worked up to the number one spot by the 16th lap. Scott Dragon of Milton took second place, while Shawn Fleury of Middlesex came in third.
Vermont’s governor, Phil Scott, also joined the race. He was close to taking second place when the bumper of his vehicle tapped against the wall. His car then went into a skid, over a hill, and into a ditch. He completed the race in 19th place.
The 55th Annual Memorial Day Classic was presented by Mekkelsen RV Sales & Rental. Many companies use banner printing to advertise their sponsorship of an event and show their involvement within the community. Racecars may also use professional printing to advertise sponsorships and community partners.
Some drivers, such as Dragon, noted that the track was recently repaved with new asphalt, and that this would change the way races were run on the track. The event at Thunder Road began the title events for Allen Lumber Street Stocks, Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and the Thunder Road Late Model weekly events. Dragon was last year’s Late Model title winner, having won the crown by a single point.
Events at Thunder Road will continue throughout the season.
