The Evening Owl Hoot Hike will take place through the Niquette Bay State Park, which sprawls out over 550 acres.
Naturalists will have the opportunity to explore the forest in Colchester through an organized hike. The popular park is open to the public in the summer for swimming and most of the year for hiking.
Enjoying a quiet and interesting walk through the woods is a favorite pastime of many. Participants are encouraged to invite friends and families for this fun-filled evening into the deep and dark parts of the forest. They should listen closely for the hoot of an owl or two.
Hikers should wear traction boot devices or snowshoes as the winter trails in Niquette are well-used. A headlamp or flashlight should also be part of each participant’s gear for this hike. Temperatures drop significantly after dark so appropriate weather clothing is important.
Banner printing is a task handled by organizers of night events. Banners can be created by local Print shops and placed strategically throughout the trails to keep everyone on track and avoid getting lost in the darkness of the forest.
Space is limited so interested parties should register as soon as possible. The hike will take place on February 22 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. It is a free activity that is very popular and fills quickly. Visit the website for more information and to RSVP with registration.
