Colchester welcomes video/anime convention

A convention for people who love video games and anime is coming to Colchester.

Bakuretsu Con 2024 is the most recent Bakuretsu convention to be held in Colchester, which began hosting these events in 2001. The con is for lovers of video games and anime, and includes a manga library, a Japanese-inspired café, a board gaming room, game shows, LARPing, an Artists Alley, cosplay chess, a cosplay contest, workshops, panels, vendors, guests, and video game rooms with both imported and domestic videos.

Organizers expect about 600 people to attend the event, which is sponsored by The Anime Society of Vermont. The Society is a non-profit, public organization that uses the celebration of manga and anime to promote diversity and cultural awareness. Anime has become hugely popular in the West, as the reception of films like the stunning “Howl’s Moving Castle” can attest.

Organizers invite attendees to come as they like, whether they are from outer space, feudal Japan, or some other universe, and share their vision with others as they meet and make friends with people who enjoy other fandoms.

Bakuretsu Con 2024 is scheduled for October 25-27 at the Hampton Inn Colchester. When events of this complexity are designed, organizers will often contact local printers and ask them to use flyer printing to create a handout with a schedule of events and map of the venue for attendees to use.
