Colchester to Ham it up with radio-themed day

An upcoming convention will give amateur radio enthusiasts a day to connect with others and enjoy their hobby.

The Radio Amateurs of Northern Vermont are sponsoring the upcoming Vermont Ham Radio Convention, known as Ham-Con, which has superseded the previous “Hamfests.” The day is packed with events including forums, a flea market, and various vendors, as well as a chance to take exams to earn an FCC Commercial License. Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the event. When organizers plan complex events like this, they may decide to use flyer printing to create handouts for attendees with a map, list of vendors, and the agenda.

Although the subjects of this year’s forums are still being determined, a look at last year’s event will provide an idea of the material that will be discussed. Some presenters will be at Ham-Con in person, while others will appear over Zoom. Subjects from last year include what to look for when considering a new radio rig, how to win the World Radio Team Competition, information about oscilloscopes, and a visit to a mobile ham radio shack. Various demonstrations are also planned.

Ham-Con is set for February 2, from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm, at the Hampton Convention Center in Colchester. General admission tickets are $12 each, and early admission tickets are $18. General admission ticketholders will be admitted at 8:00 am, while those holding early admission tickets will be allowed in at 6:00 am.
