Colchester plans to celebrate the nation’s birthday with a party that lasts all day and includes a parade, a run, and fireworks.
The day begins with a 5K Fun Run, which has a $5.00 entry fee. Registration is from 7.30 am until 8.00 am at Union Memorial School, and the run itself begins at 8.15 am at Middle Road.
The parade starts at Colchester High School at 10.00 am. The route leads from the school down Blakely Road, and ends at Lavigne Road. Roads along the route will be closed for approximately one hour.
Bayside Beach will be open during the holiday, but there will not be any lifeguards on duty.
Bayside Park will have a lot of activities. Inflatables will be available from 5.00 pm until 9.00 pm, which is the same hours the food vendors will be on site. The Hitmen will be providing live music from 6.45 pm until 8.45 pm. They are a party band that plays rock from the 1970s and 1980s from bands like Steely Dan, the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Santana, and John Mellencamp.
The day winds up with fireworks, starting at dusk at the Bayside Softball Field. Viewers are asked to remain behind the safety fence.
Parking will be available at the Malletts Bay School, Colchester Middle School, and Colchester High School.
The date, of course, is the 4th of July. Organizers of events like this often use banner printing to create outdoor decorations for the day.
