Although it is too early to say whether high-rise schools will actually be part of the Fairfax County School System, the Board of Supervisors has approved a preliminary plan that could make this a possibility.
The Board is targeting Herndon and Reston, as they are both areas that are likely to obtain a high enrollment.
The expenses will be high to either obtain a space or, more so, build a high rise to accommodate students, but the plans are underway to propose what they are calling “activity centers” to accommodate students.
Local printing companies will be busy printing information for residents in the form of Flyers and Posters once the fundraising efforts are underway. Municipalities will likely resort to Direct Mail printing to also spread the word on any activities related to the venture.
Currently Bailey’s Upper Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences occupies this type of office space in a building at Seven Corners. The Board will look into available space that can accommodate the schools and is accessible to public transportation. These already-built locations, such as Bailey’s Crossroads, Reston, Richmond Highway, and Tysons, are a prospect for the alternative educational space the cities need.
There are still a lot of discussions and planning that will need to take place over the next several months, and it is likely plans could take years to become a reality, but city officials will continue to look at options to keep up with the area’s growth.
