Chantilly park to launch softball game fundraiser

The Ellanor C. Lawrence Park (ECLP) Friends group is hosting the first Summer Slugfest, a celebration of sports and community, in Chantilly this July.

The event will feature a six-inning softball game. Players will be adult alumni from two local youth sports organizations, the Chantilly Youth Association (CYA) and the Southwestern Youth Association (SYA). In addition to watching the game, attendees can enter raffles, receive giveaway items and shop for themed merchandise. Food trucks selling a selection of gourmet hot dogs and other snacks will also be available. CYA’s podcast, The Sideline, will broadcast live from the field.

Summer Slugfest is free to attend, open to the public and appropriate for all ages. Previous CYA or SYA athletes who are 21 or older can sign up to play on the ECLP Friends website. Participation is free, and all players will receive a jersey. The organizers see the event as a way to celebrate youth sports while giving back to the community.

All proceeds from raffle and merchandise sales will go toward ECLP Friends’ programs. These are intended to help underserved children enjoy outdoor recreation and related learning opportunities, and they include school field trips, summer camps and scholarships. Local organizations often use flyer printing services to promote their special events.

Summer Slugfest will be on Saturday, July 25, from noon to 3 pm, in Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly.
