What's Happening in Chantilly, VA…

Saxophone Symposium to take place in Chantilly area

The United States Navy Band is hosting its annual International Saxophone Symposium in northern Virginia this winter.

The two-day event features a mix of performances, competitions, lectures, and masterclasses. The Navy Band will perform both evenings along with guest musicians. The Saturday concert features the Navy Band Commodores, which is the group’s jazz ensemble. The Jazz Saxophone Competition gives winners the opportunity to perform with the Navy Band. The Junior Division is for saxophonists who are 18 and younger, while the Senior Division is for musicians aged 18 to 26.

The symposium is free and open to the public, including both local attendees from Chantilly and other nearby towns and those traveling for the event. Attendees do not need to sign up for events in advance. The full schedule is available online, and a welcome desk will be open throughout the symposium, where Navy Band members will be giving out programs and answering questions. Organizers often work with stationery printers to create programs for this type of event. Free parking is available in Lot K, or attendees can also park in the Mason Pond Parking Lot, which offers paid parking closer to the venue.

The International Saxophone Symposium will be from 12:00 noon to 10:00 pm on Friday, January 9 and 9:00 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday, January 10, at George Mason University.
