Attracting bees, butterflies, moths and other pollinators is about to get a lot easier for the child and adult duos who get their hands dirty during an activity to be hosted by the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.
The center will be getting the spring season off to a fun start by offering a class that will introduce some of the basic principles of container gardening, and both members and non-members alike may take part. It is for those age five and up, and a parent or other adult will need to attend, along with their child.
The adult-child pairs will each make a container garden that may be a good gift for Mother’s Day, and all supplies will be provided. The plants chosen for the project will be ones that attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, and they may be placed on a patio or a sunny corner of the yard.
Dish- and container-style gardens provide a way to introduce kids to horticulture. Stationery printers will be able to prepare care sheets to give to each participant in a planting workshop so they will know how to provide their new green friend with top care.
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center has scheduled the hands-on activity for May 14. Anyone who would like to be on the list of attendees may register now, and it will be held at 4501 Woodway Drive.
