The largest event of its kind in the southwest, Dallas Blooms, is ushering in spring with a dazzling array of blossoms and landscape design, and combining it with the artistic masterpieces of sculptor Gary Lee Prince.
The public is invited to stroll through the gardens and enjoy the 500,000 flowers of at least 100 different varieties of bulbs. In keeping with this year’s theme of ‘The Artistry in Nature’, pieces of bronze sculpture that were created by Prince have been situated throughout the property. The artwork is of part his collection titled ‘Great Contributors’.
The pieces in Great Contributors are life sized and cast in bronze. They capture the figures of those who have made contributions to the world of music, science, art, literature, and politics, including Monet, George Washington, Shakespeare, and Einstein.
Those who come out can stroll through the tulips, Dutch irises, pansies, hyacinths, violas, poppies, and all the other colorful blooms. At the end of April, the grand finale will culminate in the display of 3,000 blooming azaleas. Photos of gardens such as this can be used by postcard printing companies to create Postcards and other promotional items for the facility.
All of this is taking place at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. Tickets have been priced between $10 and $15, with parking for the day to be purchased separately. Tickets and parking passes, as well as more information, are available on the facility’s website.
