Dallas is getting a new bagel eatery, one that was born and bred in New York City and will be baking Italian bread and more.
Sclafani’s New York Bagels and Bread was founded by Chris Sclafani, who is in the process of renovating the former Gather Kitchen on Luther Lane in Preston Center to a bakery-cafe-and-coffee-shop he aims to have operational in January 2022.
Sclafani’s family has previous owned several bakeries the Little Italy district of New York and he will be using family recipes, some of which are decades old. He will bake Italian bread and New York-style bagels to sell along with sandwiches and coffee.
Word of mouth is important when it comes to getting the news out about a new eatery, but a flyer printing service can get the ball rolling more quickly.
Fortunately, the site comes with a full kitchen so, in addition to bagels and Italian-style bread, he will be able to make meatballs and sausage for sandwiches. The crowning glory of Sclafani’s New York Bagels and Bread will be its high-end copper espresso machine, which will deliver cappuccinos and other coffee drinks.
In Virginia, Sclafani’s most recent location before moving to Dallas to be near his children, he had a similar bakery sandwich shop concept that proved successful. That enterprise is still in operation, although under different ownership.
Bagels are becoming a trend in Dallas, with artisanal shops such as Starship Bagels and the pop-up Lenore’s introducing authentic bagels here.
