The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) has been given long-term loan of the Keir Collection of Islamic Art, and announced on September 9 that Kosmos Energy will be the Presenting Sponsor of the exhibit.
Kosmos has agreed to provide $800,000 toward the cost of the Museum’s presentation, and loans of the Keir items over the 15 years it is with the DMA. The energy company selected DMA to which to lend its support due to the vision of cross-cultural understanding shared by the two.
The Keir Collection was the property of the late Edmund de Unger who spent five decades putting it together. It is made up of over 2,000 items across an assortment of media and spans Islamic art over a 13-century period.
The Keir Collection provides DMA with an excellent postcard printing opportunity for promoting the museum, while creating souvenirs the public can purchase.
The exhibit, entitled Spirit and Matter: Masterpieces from the Keir Collection of Islamic Art, opened on September 18 with over 50 masterworks from the collection. The exhibit will remain through July 2016, after which various pieces from the comprehensive collection will be available for viewing in a series of rotating installments over the 15-year term.
Kosmos Energy is an independent company that is a prominent player in oil and gas exploration. The Keir Collection, which Kosmos is sponsoring, is named for its former home, an 18th-century British mansion.
