A lovingly preserved historic structure will be home to an Irish pub, the third for the entrepreneur.
Cannon’s Corner Irish Pub will open at the Tudor-style Cannon’s Village building in the Dallas neighborhood of Oak Cliff. The site, which was recently occupied by Garnish Kitchen, became vacant in December.
The city’s latest Irish pub is owned by native Irishmen Alan Kearney, who opened his first pub, Crafty Irishman, in 2016 in downtown Dallas. A second pub, Playwright Pub, followed in 2018 in Dallas’ One Arts Plaza. A flyer printing service is often employed to promote new ventures like this.
Kearney is obligated to retain certain features, such as the brick walls and vintage tin ceiling, which does not interfere with the blend of old and modern Irish style he is after. A bar running down the middle of the pub separates the family-friendly side from the strictly adults side.
Cannon’s Village, constructed in 1920, is one of the neighborhood’s oldest commercial structures. Kearney, who admits to loving old buildings, chose to name his new establishment after the building, saying to do otherwise would have been disrespectful.
Irish pub booths called “snugs”, as well as a number of different nooks, will be among the seating options. Obvious choices such as corned beef, fish and chips, and shepherd’s pie will be included on the menu, which will be different to the Playwright or Crafty Menus.
An April opening is hoped for Cannon’s Corner.
