Highland Park Soda Fountain spot gets new owner

A change is coming to the former Highland Park Pharmacy on Knox Street, although so far details are sketchy.

It has recently been announced that Duro Hospitality has purchased the highly coveted spot and for a restaurant. Duro already operates several popular Design District spots including Bar Charles, The Charles, and Sister.

Specifics concerning what will go into the location have not been released. What is known is that a new restaurant will debut on the spot, which occupies the corner of Travis and Knox streets, sometime in the fall of 2022.

Banner printing services are often called upon to help promote new businesses, apartment buildings, and developments onsite while they are still under construction.

The Highland Park Soda Fountain has been a landmark, at what is now the end of the new Weir’s Plaza, since 1912. It was a pharmacy first and later a soda fountain. The business closed in September of 2018 and the location has been vacant since.

Duro was founded by managing partners, Benji Homsey, Chas Martin, Ross See, and Corbin See in 2020. A hospitality firm, Duro specializes in conceptualizing, developing, designing and operating bars, hotels, restaurants, and multi-family projects.

The as yet unidentified restaurant coming to the corner of Travis and Knox will become part of the increasingly bustling dining area along Knox Street where the RH Dallas Rooftop Restaurant and the Village Baking Co. have recently opened their doors.
