The UNT Dallas clinical director of the teacher residency program, Emily Waneck, explained:
“I think in North Texas, there's a high need for this type of program, especially for sustainable staffing in our school districts. And Dallas ISD, one of our biggest partners, they were willing to work with their budget to be able to fund this type of program. We jumped on it immediately.”
Warneck added that the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) will partially fund the new program with money redirected from its budget for substitute teachers.
Schools have multiple uses for banner printing services.
The differences between the more common student teaching and this residency program are that student teaching last for only 14 weeks while teaching residents are at a school for a full school year.
Dallas ISD’s inaugural teaching residents are all bilingual and are 20 to 25 years of age. Each will earn $30,000 for their year of residency. The five will be serving at Nancy Cochran and Maple Lawn elementary schools and will be learning to teach grades Kindergarten through second grade.
Once their residency is finished the five UNT Dallas residents will be fully certified and can anticipate holding full-time teaching positions with Dallas ISD following their graduation.
