Downtown Dallas to host two family-friendly festivals

Two free festivals, the Dallas Book Festival and the Dallas Festival of Ideas, are scheduled for the same day in late April.

This year, not only is the 11th Dallas Book Festival scheduled to take place the same day as the Dallas Festival of Ideas, but the two events will also feature several of the same headliners. The Book Festival, promotes reading and writing and will spotlight over 100 authors. This premier literary event for the Dallas Public Library will also include story time and other activities for kids, writing workshops, and music and dance presentations.

The focus for the third annual Dallas Festival of Ideas will be on equality, with national speakers discussing and sharing ideas on how to make Dallas a more equitable place to live. Topics will include criminal justice reform, culture, education, entrepreneurship, health, and physical infrastructure. The Dallas Festival of Ideas differs from other similar “ideas” conferences in that afterwards, the ideas are followed up by various citizens’ groups.

The Dallas Book Festival will be held at the J. Erick Jonsson Central Library from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. City Hall Plaza will host the Dallas Festival of Ideas from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. A variety of service groups may be on hand dispensing literature and Promotional Products.

The festivals take place on April 29 and registration is required, although tickets are free.
