Debutante Ball to be shelved for this year
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League’s (DSOL) 2021 Presentation Ball has been cancelled for the first time since it began in 1987.
The initial date for this year’s Presentation Ball was February 13. In response to the pandemic, the DSOL decided to postpone the event until June 12, but has now made the decision to skip this year and resume the annual event in 2022.
The 2020 ball was held last year on February 8, before the pandemic was in full force. According to the Presentation Ball Chairperson Mari Epperson, the 2021 debutantes are welcome to take part in the 2022 Presentation Ball, which promises to be an extraordinary event.
Over the past 35 years, the ball has become a family tradition for some, with second- and third-generations attending together. Every year, print shops help families and groups create customized invitations, ranging from whimsical to elegant.
This year’s ball was intended to honor Mrs. Vance C. Miller, the first Ball chairperson, Mrs. P. Mike McCullough, who served as her co-chairperson, and Mrs. Don Averitt, each of whom has been a part of every ball since the beginning.
The DSOL started in 1946; its mission has been to promote the Dallas Symphony Orchestra via education, service, and fundraising activities. Each year for many years the Presentation Ball has been the premier fundraising event for the DSOL.
