Dates set by Big 12 and SEC for athletes to return to campus

Good news for Dallas sports fans; the Big 12 and SEC have set dates in June for on-campus voluntary workouts by team members.

Presidents and chancellors of the Big 12 have approved June 15 as the date football players can return to campus and start voluntary conditioning and workouts. Other fall sport athletes will be allowed to return July 1. Those college students participating in winter and spring sports have a target date of July 15.

When to resume “voluntary in-person athletics activities” was voted on by SEC presidents and the result was a beginning date of June 8, which was seen as a compromise between those pulling for a June 1 opening and those looking for an even later date. Several days earlier, the NCAA gave permission for workouts in football, as well as men’s and women’s basketball.

Announcements of significant activities beginning or accomplishments made are frequently promoted with the assistance of a banner printing service.

Adhering to local and state protocols and best health practices will be required by Big 12 schools and the SEC medical panel guidelines will apply to all activities by SEC athletes, but the individual schools will oversee the activities.

The Big 12, the SEC and other conferences adjourned athletic activity in response to the COVID-19 pandemic through May 31.
