Dallas to explore udon noodles this summer

The restaurant chain Marugame Udon, which specializes in made-to-order, fresh udon noodles and tempura, is opening two Dallas locations early this summer.

The concept of Marugame Udon, was developed in Japan in 2000 and has grown to over 1,000 locations. In 2011, the first franchise to open outside in Japan opened in Hawaii. Presently there are two in the “Aloha State” and seven in California selling udon, which are a thick form of Japanese noodles.

Flyer and poster printing services provide a way of promoting a new restaurant concept as well as an individual location.

The first to open in Dallas will be in the Old Town Shopping Center at 5500 Greenville Ave., followed by a location at 3450 E Hebron Pkwy in Carrolton. The franchisee, veteran restaurateur Mark H. Brezinski, anticipates opening an additional three locations around Dallas, and is already looking at locations.

In addition to noodles and tempura fried items, the Dallas locations will have an expanded menu with chicken katsu sandwiches and robata-style, char-grilled skewers. There will also be a unique take on the fried chicken sandwich with a crispy panko bread crumb coating and served with sweet potato fries and apple-red onion slaw.

Marugame is a self-service Cafeteria-style, informal-dining restaurant with reasonable prices. Each bowl of udon is made to order and cost $5; plus, a large selection of tempura is available a la carte style at a cost of $1 or $2. Sake and draft beer will be on tap.
