Forbes has recently comprised a list of the best places in the county for finding a job in 2015, and the Dallas metro area came in at number three.
The Forbes report indicates that the Dallas metro area, of which Irving and Plano are a part, increased its number of jobs in 2014 by 4.2%. This means that from 2009 through 2014, job growth for the area was 23%.
According to Forbes, job growth has usually been highest in coastal cities that were heavily invested in financial institutions, but it seems that the trend has switched to favor cities that are tech hubs. This explains why Silicon Valley metro areas were at the top of the list. Number one was San Francisco-Redwood City-South San Francisco, followed by the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara metro area
The growth the Dallas metro area has experienced in the business services sector, as well as its low cost of living helped earn it the #3 position. Other sectors that are well-represented in Dallas are manufacturing, energy and transportation. According to the report’s author, Joel Kotkin the city’s economic diversity is key to its bright future.
