In 2022’s report on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, Houston Methodist stood alone in the top position with UT Southwestern trailing in the No. 2 spot among Texas hospitals. This year’s report lists UT Southwestern as:
“…nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties and rated high performing in one adult specialty and 19 procedures and conditions.”

Additionally, the hospital performed particularly well nationally in an assortment of categories, such as No. 15 in rehabilitation, No. 16 for pulmonology and lung surgery, No. 17 for diabetes and endocrinology, No. 18 in neurology and neurosurgery, and No. 19 for cancer. Further down the list UT Southwestern was No. 20 for geriatrics as well as cardiology and heart surgery, came in at No. 25 for urology, and its ear, nose, and throat department at No. 28.
The annual U.S. News hospital rankings are based on patient care, outcomes, patient safety, advanced technology, nursing, and reputation. This year, 592 Texas hospitals were evaluated.
