The Financial Times FDI Intelligence division recently released the results of its first ever list of Tier 2 Cities of the Future 2020-21, which casts Dallas in a favorable position for continued global business success.
Analyzing the viability of future investing in non-capital cities throughout the world, the report places Dallas in eighth place for lifestyle and human capital, in addition to its overall 19th place ranking. San Francisco topped the overall list, with Montreal taking the No. 2 position.
The term “second-tier” as it applies to cities around the globe, means cities that are not capitals and that have a population below eight million. To determine their ranking, cities were assessed using 116 points of data divided into five categories: business friendliness, connectivity, cost effectiveness, economic potential, and human capital and lifestyle.
Cities that fit into this “Second-tier” category and are ranked favorably on the Financial Times list may choose to send this information to their brochure printing services with the hope that it will encourage business investment.
Overall, Texas made a strong showing on the global list. In addition to Dallas, Austin and Houston were also included among the top 20 cities. Austin earned the No.11, spot while Houston attained the No.3 position. For economic growth potential, Austin placed eighth, while Houston was third for human lifestyle and capital and seventh place for economic potential.
