Black Friday sales remain strong despite changes

The Dallas area retailers enjoyed a busy Black Friday this year, as near perfect weather, a rising stock market, and the end of an intense presidential election appeared to put consumers in a buying mood.

Strong Black Fridays have sometimes been followed by less than spectacular sales through the rest of the Christmas shopping season, but this year, forecasters predict the healthy sales to continue. The consensus is for around a 3.6% increase over last year, which is in line with the National Retail Federation’s prediction for Christmas sales.

Some items that sold out on Black Friday here in Dallas were PlayStation 4 Call of Duty Black Ops, PlayStation VR bundle, and Nintendo NES Classic. Not surprisingly, there were toys on the sold-out list as well, among which are Kurios Smartwatches, Razor Hovertrack 2.0, and the must talked of Hatchimals.

Referencing the impressive Black Friday sales at Galleria Dallas, general manager Angie Freed said:

"It's like people are expressing a big relief that it's OK to go out and shop again."

Although online shopping increases each year, Black Friday, with the help of marketing tools such as promotional Flyers and Banners, is still the busiest shopping day of the Thanksgiving week for malls and stores. This is despite big box stores opening on Thanksgiving Day and e-retailers offering early discounts.
