Veterans greeted by former president

On November 11, dozens of veterans participating in a Veteran’s Day event at the Bush Institute in Dallas, got a surprise when former president George W. Bush walked in and wished them a happy Veterans Day.

The vets were touring a recreation of the Oval Office at Bush’s presidential library when the ex-president walked into the replica of his former office.

With many veterans taking the opportunity to shake Bush’s hand and take pictures of themselves doing so, those pictures will likely become cherished mementos and some Copies may find their way to postcard printing services, while others are turned into Holiday Cards.

Bush told the group that he missed having the opportunity to salute those in uniform, and that helping vets had become an important part of his life and would remain so. He added that his reason for his dedication to those who are wearing or have worn the uniform is that after making it clear that the United States would defend itself after 9/11, millions volunteered for the armed forces.

The former president has, since leaving office, held a Warrior Open with veterans each year.

Veterans Day also saw thousands of people take to the streets of Dallas to show their gratitude to veterans, with high school students and veterans themselves among the group that paraded to City Hall Plaza.
