Texas still among top 15 innovative states

In the area of innovation, Texas is no slouch, and moreover, it is working its way up the ladder, which as residents of one of the state’s largest cities is good news for those living in Dallas.

Last year, Texas took the No. 15 spot among WalletHub’s annual Most and Least Innovative States, and this year it moved up one place to No. 14, which follows a pattern. Each year since 2021, when it came in at No. 17, the Lone Star State has moved up the list of Most Innovative States by one place. In its current position of No. 14, the state garnered a score of 48.43.
For comparison, 10th place New Jersey had a score of 53.2.

WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe said in the report:

“The most innovative states are especially attractive to people who have majored in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, as they offer abundant career opportunities and investment dollars, both for jobs at existing companies and for startups."

STEM programs, as well as their state’s innovative business environment, are included in information sent by universities to Print shops for promotional purposes.

WalletHub used 25 key metrics divided between “Innovation Environment” and “Human Capital.” Internal report ratings for Texas included a high for “Share of Technology Companies,” where it garnered 13th place, and a less impressive No.31 ranking for “R&D Spending per Capita.”

The top five places went in order to the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Washington, California, and Colorado.
